In May of 2020, the Interreligious Network for Worker Solidarity, Bargaining for the Common Good, and the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice at Vanderbilt University hosted a webinar, “Transformative Partnerships with Faith Leaders and Labor Unions.” Panelists Abdirahman Muse, Executive Director, The Awood Center, Rev. C.J. Hawking, Executive Director, Arise Chicago, Pastor Bridie Roberts, Deputy Director of Community Organizing, Unite Here Local 11, and Rigo Valdez, MLK Labor Coordinator, King County joined us to discuss moving beyond the “rent-a-collar” model into effective, mutual faith-labor organizing.
